The Role

The Creative Development Curator and Producer will sit within Sage & Jester’s senior leadership team. This role drives the creative strategy, vision, and programme, while shaping and managing the project slate and development processes. The goal is to make art that is both punchy and profound, catalysing a better-informed, more empowered society.

Key Responsibilities

Artistic
  • Develop the creative programme for the next 1-3 years, collaborating with senior management across a range of mediums including (but not limited to) stage, screen, audio and digital formats.
  • Lead the charge on the ideation of groundbreaking creative work, making space for big ideas, disruptive opportunities, and unexpected collaborations that fuse expertise and artistry.
  • Oversee all R&D; alongside the Managing Director, shaping the slate that best serves the ambition of the mission.
  • Oversee the ‘green light’ and feasibility processes of each creative piece (including costing and production specifications)
  • Keep the “infinite cause” at the heart of every project and every conversation. Lead every in-house production until it’s time to hand day-to-day stewardship to a project producer, supporting co-productions as required.
  • Curation means searching for overlooked artists, new voices, and fresh talent. That is the backbone of the slate, far more than just producing.
  • Support partnerships and marketing teams in the development of new opportunities and projects.
  • Take an active role in exploring both UK and global opportunities.
Finance, Development and Partnerships
  • Work within and manage annual and development budgets.
  • Ensure all work is both financially sound and sustainable, working transparently with the Managing Director.
  • Forge strategic development plans and support dynamic business growth.
  • Champion high production values and creative integrity in every collaboration, fostering environments that let artists thrive.
  • Represent, advocate, and negotiate on Sage & Jester’s behalf with artists, organisations, venues, and partners.
Audience development and marketing
  • Work closely with the Marketing & Communications Director to devise an artistic programme that builds the brand and connects with audiences.
Experience
  • Demonstrable experience in programming and/or making contemporary creative projects, developing work and supporting creative teams.
  • Experience working across a spectrum of formats, from live performance to screen and digital work
  • Experience of working with a variety of stakeholders and partners at a senior level.
  • gency experience is desirable but not essential.
Skills
